The moment you decide to dive into the world of affiliate marketing, become an Amazon associate, and create an affiliate marketing site, you have to understand that it isn’t going to be easy. You’re going to have to put in a lot of work if you want to generate income. Today, we’re going to discuss share our favorite affiliate marketing tips that will help you turn leads into sales.

Affiliate Marketing Tip #1: Create Reviews on Your Affiliate Marketing Site

In order to do well as an affiliate marketer, you’re going to want to provide your target consumer with information about the product(s) you’re promoting. One of the easiest ways to do this is by doing an in-depth review of the product and answer questions that they may have.

For example, let’s say you’ve created an affiliate marketing website for children’s toys and you’re reviewing a swing set for young children. Your review should cover things like:

  • Packaging and product dimensions
  • How clear are the assembly instructions
  • Pros and cons of this particular swing set (or even compare comparable swing sets)
  • Maintenance tips
  • General overview of the positive and negative customer reviews on Amazon
  • …etc.

When you’re creating your reviews, make sure you’re honest, objective, and transparent. You want your audience to trust you and the information you provide. This means you don’t want to rave about how wonderful a product is if there are any concerns or problems.

Affiliate Marketing Tip #2: Create In-Depth Tutorials

Although creating product reviews is one of the easiest affiliate marketing strategies, you’ll want to offer your target audience with other useful information. Yes, the reviews are informative, but the more information you can give to your audience, the better. You can provide that information by way of in-depth guides and tutorials for the product.

When you join the Amazon Affiliate Program, we recommend choosing a niche that you’re familiar with and can write create an extensive tutorial that touches on:

Information about the product’s manufacturer

People are more likely to purchase products from reputable brands that are known for:

  • Making quality products
  • Ethical business and manufacturing practices
  • Little to no product recalls
  • …etc.

Product Usage and Maintenance

Although there may be countless swing sets on the market, they may have different guidelines for usage and maintenance. For example, some components of the swing set may have different age or weight requirements.

Tips, Tricks, and Advice

We recommend adding this type of information because customers will be able to maximize the use and longevity of the product.

Common Problems and Troubleshooting Tips

This is very useful because it will give potential customers a chance to see common problems people have had with the product and the solution how to fix it… If it can be fixed. Customers can use this information so they’re aware of potential problems and if they even want to deal with the risk.

Comparisons to Similar Products You Have Reviewed

We like adding this part because it’ll give your readers a few options based on their specific needs. Maybe some people want a plastic swing set that is easy to assemble. Maybe some people are looking for wooden sets that will last for a long time. Keep in mind that you only want to use products you’ve previously reviewed and have affiliate links for!

Affiliate Marketing Tip #3: Remember to Use “No Follow” Tags on Your Affiliate Links

Google recommends that affiliate marketers attach rel=”nofollow” to the end of their affiliate links so that your paid affiliate links won’t affect your affiliate website’s ranking on Google’s search results, nor will it affect Google’s search results in general.

Affiliate Marketing Tip #4. Use Clickable Affiliate Link Banners

Along with contextual links (this is a contextual link), you could use affiliate banners in various places on your site such as:

  • Your blog’s sidebar
  • The footer and header of your site
  • Embedded within your blog posts
  • In your email marketing

You can find a wide variety of banner shapes and sizes through this link. The best part is that Amazon provides you with holiday or specific events like Back to School banners you can also display on your site.

It’s worth noting that banner ads tend to be ignored and many people even say they’re absolutely intolerable and they’ll use ad blockers so they don’t even see them, which leads to “banner blindness.” Neil Patel did an excellent article about this, which we strongly recommend reading.

Affiliate Marketing Tip #5: Email Marketing

Email marketing is a great way to build trust with your audience, distribute your content, and bring more people to your Amazon affiliate website. Once someone becomes a subscriber to your site, send them a series of welcome emails. In these emails, you can send readers to relevant blog posts that contain affiliate links.

However, avoid spamming your new subscribers with emails with a bunch of links and nothing of value. Your emails should be helpful to your readers, not a chance to shove your affiliation to Amazon in their faces.

Affiliate Marketing Tip #6: Have a “Products/Resources/Tools I Recommend” Page

As an affiliate marketer, you want to choose a topic that you know, love, and stand by. You want your audience to go to your site and trust your recommendations. Our favorite way to do this is by creating a “Recommendations” page where you share your favorite products, resources and even tools that you think your audience would enjoy using as well.

It’s important to remember that this is not something you can just throw together. You have to actually love the things you’re recommending. This leads us to our next point…

Affiliate Marketing Tip #7: Use YouTube

If you watch a lot of YouTube videos, you might see your favorite content creators talk about their favorite things, give reviews of new products, and even do videos comparing products. These types of videos are an excellent way to provide your subscribers with useful information and actually see how the product is used.

You might be wondering how will your subscribers purchase products through your affiliate link? It’s simple. You can direct viewers to the description box under the video where you’ll place your affiliate links.

Just remember that by doing this, you have to disclose to your viewers that you’re part of the Amazon Affiliates Program and you’ll learn money if they purchase through your links. You can learn more about affiliate disclosures in this article.

Affiliate Marketing Tip #8: Use Search Engine Optimization!!

This is something we cannot stress enough. The content you create on your affiliate marketing site should be search engine optimized (SEO) so that search engines can find your site and rank it in someone’s search results. In doing this, people will find your site, read your content (and possibly subscribe to your site) and click on the affiliate link.

It’s important to remember that you want to choose a niche and products that have a high search volume; meaning a lot of people are looking for that product.

When you’re trying to create an SEO strategy, you’ll want to consider:

Keywords

  • These are the words or phrases people plug in Google’s search bar. Since you’re trying to generate some sort of income through your affiliate site, you’ll want to focus on keywords/phrases buyers are using.

Here are some examples:

  • 2019 best swing sets
  • Swing sets on Amazon
  • Swing sets for sale
  • Swing sets for backyard
  • …etc.

It’s important to make sure you’re using buyer-specific keywords rather than informational keywords. You want to use the buyer-specific terms because you want to target people who want to buy products, not just learn about them; you can use informational keywords in those informational blog posts.

Here are some examples:

  • How to build a swing set
  • How to build a wooden swing set
  • Can I build a swing set
  • DIY swing set ideas
  • …etc.

Content

Google, like your readers, prefers content that provides helpful information to the reader. The more in-depth your content is, Google will see your site as an authority on the subject matter. We recommend striving for original content that’s between 1,000 and 2,000 words per post. We say original content because there are thousands, if not millions, of other sites that go over the same information so you have to make sure your content stands out from the rest.

Backlinking

Backlinking is probably the most important thing you can do to make sure your affiliate marketing efforts really pay off. What is backlinking, you ask? To put it simply, it’s having authoritative sites link back to your site. You can do this by:

Guest Posting This means you’ll reach out to authoritative sites within your niche and write blog posts that will ultimately link back to your site.

Outreach Link Building – This means your site is included in a roundup post from an authority site that their readers would find useful.

Shares on Social Media – This means your content is shared on various social media platforms.

Final Thoughts

As an affiliate marketer, you can’t just create your affiliate marketing site and be done with it. To maximize your efforts, you’ll want to use solid affiliate marketing strategies. By using the strategies outlined in this blog, it’ll be a matter of time before the sales start rolling in. Of course, you have to stay on top of all of it; your marketing strategies, your affiliate links, trending keywords for your niche and so forth.

Once you get the hang of growing your first affiliate marketing site and see that it’s generating income, don’t be surprised if you want to start more!
